Rooster

As my first Aussie, Rooster set the bar high. He is the typical Australian Shepherd in the sense that is devoted to his family and aloof with strangers. Those who meet him would be surprised to hear this, because generally he is the first to greet visitors and has a smile on his face. He is never standoffish, but simply uninterested unless they had the right treat or scratched his butt the right way. His beautiful liver coloring make him a striking dog to look at but his ability to turn it on and settle was what always made me love his temperament. He has always been very much MY dog and he took time to show his true self to others within the family. We unfortunately had a slow start getting into dog sports because of work schedules that included weekends, but he was able to make strides in agility and rally obedience, as well as got some time in as a therapy dog. He loved working with kids the most and lived for showing off his frisbee skills to them.

Rooster is major pointed in ASCA and had many Reserve Winners Dog wins in AKC. These close wins where enough to keep us just out of reach of getting his championship. Pair this with the little extra time I had to keep showing him on top of performance sports, his only championship resides with the UKC. He was awarded Best in Show twice in one weekend with UKC, which was a wonderful surprise to walk away with. He was also extremely close to getting his ATCH agility title in ASCA. He was 4 qualifying runs away from the title, but unfortunately his body needed to stop before we could get there and he was retired from agility at the 2022 ASCA National Specialty. He started me off in Rally Obedience and has taken us to the Masters level. He started Rally at the ripe age of 8.5 years and while he is now 12, we will see if we can get one last chance at getting his Rally Master title in the year 2024, which will be our last year competing.
